Karen has over twenty three years’ experience working in the nuclear industry; twenty years in radiological protection. Karen started her Health Physics career managing the dosimetry and dose records. She then progressed to become a Health Physics Surveyor during the refuelling of reactors, giving her practical experience in the use of a wide range of radiological protection instrumentation, carrying out radiological surveys and the calibration of instruments.
Karen then worked as a Health Physicist in the Nuclear Industry where she provided advice to customers including incident support, and helped ensure compliance with the relevant regulations. She also participated in specialist radiation protection training to staff and contractors and interaction with regulatory bodies for audits and inspections.
Karen has worked in the oil and gas industry since August 2013 and has been involved in radiation compliance audits at on- and off-shore sites as well as supervising land surveys on potentially contaminated land.
