Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS)

Our RPSs provide invaluable, onsite assistance and guidance to site personnel to ensure the safe handling and management of radioactive materials and to make sure the correct procedures are being observed at all times.

What is a Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS)?

Radiation Protection Supervisors (RPSs) play a vital role in protecting those who work with ionising radiations.They are appointed under the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR17) to ensure that local rules and procedures are being followed.

ARPS RPSs are highly experienced in carrying out both field surveying and monitoring and can oversee the management of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) work scopes.

What are my responsibilities?

The Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 require employers to keep exposure to ionising radiations as low as reasonably practicable. To achieve this, employers are required by law to appoint a Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) who will help them to introduce safe systems of work, such as risk assessments, procedures and local rules. It is the job of the RPS to ensure that the workforce understands these rules and complies with them at all times.

Our RPSs provide invaluable, onsite assistance and guidance to site personnel to ensure the safe handling and management of radioactive materials and to make sure the correct procedures are being observed at all times.

Some of the common oil and gas projects that our RPS’ work on include;

  • Offshore well intervention and workover
  • Diving Support Vessel work
  • Tank and vessel inspection
  • Pigging jobs
  • Additional support during busy periods (e.g. shutdowns / turnarounds)
